Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Nicolo Zaniolo has requested a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Spurs are reportedly lining up an offer to sign the Italy international on loan for the remainder of the season as Antonio Conte seeks to strengthen during the remainder of this month’s transfer window.
Zaniolo is also in rader with a move to Chelsea over the summer and may now be on the move after requesting to leave the Italian capital.
Conte’s options up front have been hampered by a string of injuries this season, with both Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison missing significant amounts of time.
Spurs were interested in signing Leandro Trossard before he joined Arsenal. But the Belgian’s agent revealed that Spurs missed out due to their lack of commitment to the deal.
Zaniolo, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder, has 24 goals and 18 assists in 128 appearances for the Serie A giants.
Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, believes a deal will be difficult to complete.
“Nicoló Zaniolo has asked to leave the club — but it’s not guaranteed,” Mourinho told reporters.
“The current proposals are insufficient.”
“We only need a good proposal to let Zaniolo go, and we haven’t received one. My gut feeling is that he will stay in the end.”
