Arsenal and adidas have temporarily halted the sale of their 2023/24 home shirt owing to a design flaw.
The Gunners’ home uniform commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 2003/04 Invincibles by featuring their 38-game record from that season on the seams.
Pictures quickly spread on social media of customers who discovered their jerseys had just 32 games from that memorable season under Arsene Wenger. Adidas has now issued a statement stating the shirt has been removed from shops while the error is corrected.
“The 2023/24 Arsenal Home Authentic Jerseys are temporarily unavailable while a design error is corrected,” it says.
“We are collaborating with the club and our partners to ensure that restocked jerseys are available as soon as possible.”
“We are offering full refunds to fans who have already purchased one.”
“This design error falls short of the standards we set as a brand.”
“We sincerely apologize to the club and its supporters.”
The new shirt was worn by both the men’s and women’s teams at the end of the 2022/23 season, when they finished second and third in the Premier League and Women’s Super League, respectively.
Arsenal has had adidas make its shirts since 2019, after previously working with Puma for five years following a 20-year collaboration with Nike ended in 2014.
Arsenal and adidas suspend sale of 2023-24 home shirt
The Gunners are forced to suspend sales of their new home shirt model until Adidas fixes a design fault.
The real edition of the home shirt for the 2023-24 season, which was revealed last month and costs £110, commemorates the Invincibles’ 20th anniversary.
Arsenal’s results from the 2003-04 season are emblazoned on the side of the uniform, although many noticed that the design only represented 32 of the 38 results.
Adidas has apologized to Arsenal and fans for their blunder. A full refund has been issued to anybody who purchased the jersey.
The £80 replica version of the jersey is unaffected because it does not bear the 2003-04 results.
