According to Sky Sport Italia, AS Roma have begun talks with Atalanta over the potential signing of Duvan Zapata.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho has highlighted the need for a new center-forward to fill the void left by Tammy Abraham’s injury.
Alvaro Morata of Atletico Madrid has been associated with Giallorossi. The Spaniard, though, is said to favor remaining at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Roma and La Dea initially examined the availability of Luis Muriel before shifting their focus to Zapata.
The Giallorossi intend to speed up negotiations with the Colombian striker, whose contract with La Dea ends next summer.
The 32-year-old has made 189 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 81 goals and supplying 43 assists.
Zapata, who has spent over a decade in the Italian top division, would be an excellent addition to the capital giants.
However, the Colombian’s form remains a source of concern, as he has seen a substantial drop in his performance levels over the last few seasons.

With Santos forward Marcos Leonardo as their priority summer target, Roma are continuing up their negotiations.

The Serie A giants have made a €10 million bid, plus €8 million in bonuses. They are awaiting a response from the Brazilian team.
Roger Ibanez is on the verge of joining Saudi giants Al-Ahli in a deal worth roughly €30 million to Roma.
Another top target for Roma is the midfielder Renato Sanches of Paris Saint-Germain, who they want to loan out.
Duvan Zapata: Atalanta BC Career
Zapata signed a two-season loan agreement with an option to purchase with Atalanta on July 12, 2018.
On December 26, 2018, Zapata scored twice against Juventus to tie the game 2-2. Zapata became the first Atalanta player to accomplish this milestone in Serie A since Hasse Jeppson in 1952 later that day, when he scored four goals in a 5-0 away victory against Frosinone. He also scored his 56th league goal for the team against Genoa.
