Aston Villa have won the race to sign Colombian striker Jhon Duran, 19, with a £15 million ($18 million) deal agreed with MLS club the Chicago Fire.
The talented teenager has recently been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea, with comparisons to Belgium international frontman Lukaku. He is already the second-youngest player to score in Colombia’s top flight. He have also done so when he was only 15 years old. Also he became the most expensive foreign signing in MLS history when he moved to Chicago from Envigado in January 2021.
Villa have now revealed that they have a deal in place, saying in a statement on the club’s official website. “Aston Villa can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Chicago Fire for the permanent transfer of 19-year-old striker. The agreement is contingent on the player passing a medical exam. After that, agreeing to personal terms, and obtaining the necessary work visa.”
Duran began his career as a tricky winger in the Envigado youth ranks. But he was transformed into a powerful striker while working with coaches such as Wilson James Rodriguez. James is also known as – the father of former Real Madrid and Everton star James Rodriguez.
Duran will join a striker pool in the West Midlands that already includes Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings. Villa will be hoping to see him reach his full potential if he completes a move to England.
