Darwin Nunez has been named the Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for February by Liverpool.
The striker wins the award for the second time this season after placing ahead of Stefan Bajcetic and Mohamed Salah in a fan vote on Liverpoolfc.com.
“First and foremost, I’d want to thank the fans for that because as soon as you walk out to warm up and then you hear your name being screamed by the fans, it’s just wonderful and it gives me chills,” Nunez said after receiving the award at the AXA Training Centre.
“That’s the first time I’ve heard anything like it. It’s fantastic for both myself and my wife. ‘It’s fantastic how they support you and are constantly behind you,’ she remarked. She often tells me that even when I was struggling with form in the first few games, the fans were always there to encourage me.
“They never gave up on me and were always supportive. It’s now all about thanking them and making these supporters as happy as possible.”
In February, the Uruguayan made four appearances for the Reds, scoring twice and assisting once.
In the Merseyside derby triumph over Everton at Anfield, he initiated the breakaway that resulted to Salah’s counter-attacking goal.

Nunez then scored in back-to-back games, opening the scoring against Newcastle United before scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League with a fantastic flip.
And the No.27 is desperate to maintain his form as he approaches the end of his first season on Merseyside.
“I think I’ve settled in quite well now,” Darwin Nunez added and I believe that if you give 100% in training, you should also give 100% in games.
“I believe I am performing well in training throughout the week, and I believe I am demonstrating my talent and quality in games. Everything appears to be going well. I’m very happy with how well I’m doing and performing.
“In terms of effort, in every single game I’m trying to give everything that I can for Liverpool and all of my teammates. You must constantly work hard for the group since this league is quite competitive, so you must make every effort to guarantee that things go smoothly. In that regard, I believe things are going nicely.
“Of sure, I need to improve in one or two areas, but that comes with hard work, and then everything will go well in the matches.”
