Barca has been ordered to pay former player Matheus Fernandes €8.5 million (£7.5 million/$9.1 million) for terminating his contract illegally 18 months ago.
RB Bragatino announced on social media a few days ago that they had agreed to loan Matheu Fernandes to Palmeiras until the end of 2023.
The Brazilian footballer was back in the news on Tuesday. According to ‘Què t,hi jugues,’ the South American player beat Barcelona on the courts after they unfairly forced him out.
Matheus will receive €7.7 million as a result of the result, with an additional €810,000 on the way. The Catalan club terminated the player’s contract in the summer of 2021.
The Brazilian player only appeared once for Barcelona. It happened in a Champions League match against Dinamo de Kiev in November 2022.
FC Barcelona signed Matheus on the final day of the 2020 January transfer window, committing to a five-year contract, but terminated it 18 months later. The Brazilian quickly took the Blaugrana to court, alleging that the club owed him a sizable sum of money. Matheus officially get victory the case this week. Thus, the courts orders Barcelona to pay him the €8.5 million.
Matheus, who now plays for Red Bill Bragantino, had a difficult time at Camp Nou. He only played 17 minutes in a Barca shirt after signing for €10 million (£7.5 million/$10.7 million) to little fanfare.
Matheus is one of former club president Josep Bartomeu’s last bad financial decisions. He was infamous for the club’s near-bankruptcy due to financial mismanagement, and his transfer dealings were a big part of the problem. Matheus was one of those botched purchases.
