Germany players will give €1 million to an SOS Children’s Village in Nepal as a gesture of support at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Die Mannschaft
The goal of this program is to help children of migrant workers in Qatar or children who have lost their fathers and are not able to get proper education.
The 2022 FIFA Men‘s World Cup is causing controversy for a variety of reasons, including the experiences and working conditions of many of the migrant workers employed to build the winter spectacle of the world’s largest sporting event.
This has left both spectators and participants uncomfortable. And with the latter drawing special attention for being forced into a situation over which they had no choice or control. Nonetheless, they are now in a situation where their words and actions on this subject are front and center.
Germany Captain’s Satetment
Bayern Munich captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer issued a statement regarding the donation. “There are a lot of migrant laborers who travel to all nations. Supporting children with SOS Children’s Villages is a good thing. It’s long-term because we’ll do it over the next five years.”
