Ilkay Gundogan wants to move to FC Barcelona.

Barcelona have held a meeting with the agent of Manchester City captain and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan today.

The German international is in the final five months of his contract with Manchester City and is heavily in links with a move to Barcelona in the recent past.

There had been speculations that the 32-year-old would be renewing his contract with the Premier League champions to stay at the Etihad beyond the current season.

But, nothing is set in stone as of yet and it seems like Barcelona are making an attempt to lure him to Spotify Camp Nou in the summer.

The Blaugrana are looking for reinforcements for the middle of the park, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding Sergio Busquets’ future.

In the case that Busquets decides not to extend his contract, Gundogan can be a good short-term option for Barcelona to add that extra piece of wisdom and leadership in the middle of the field.

The captain of Manchester City is a “very serious” alternative for Barça in the forthcoming transfer window because he would also be coming on a free transfer, according to Romero. Previous reports indicate that his arrival has not yet been verified.

Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016, Gundogan has been there for over seven years. The midfielder has played 284 times for the Premier League’s juggernauts, tallying 52 goals and providing 36 assists.

Gundogan, a Manchester City legend, has been essential to the club’s success under Pep Guardiola and has won a number of titles. But given that the Catalans met with his representative all morning today, a summer transfer to Barcelona may be in the cards.
