Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Manchester United defender Erik ten Hag is “disrespecting” Harry Maguire and has advised him to leave the club.
Ten Hag chose to start left-back Luke Shaw ahead of Maguire in the heart of his backline alongside Raphael Varane. It happened in recent wins over Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Maguire, who was a standout performer for England at the 2022 World Cup, returned to the United starting XI in their 3-0 win over Bournemouth, but Shaw was selected at center-back once more in their FA Cup clash with Everton, and Ferdinand believes the time has come for him to move on.
On his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, the United legend questioned Ten Hag’s treatment of Maguire, saying: “If you are him, you must leave immediately. Luke Shaw is taking his place at center-back. That’s like me going back after the World Cup, playing well. He added “everyone praising him, and Patrice Evra is playing center-back.”
What has Maguire told?
“Patrice would make me want to strangle her! I would’ve smashed Patrice in training to make sure he’s not available. And also I’d be going to the manager and saying, ‘are you taking the p*ss out of me, boss?’. I’d have walked straight into the manager’s office and said, ‘you’re disrespecting me’. Harry Maguire needs to get moving. I believe he stays because they can’t get someone else in because of the games. He participates in cup games.”
