The 19-year-old from Durham joined Manchester United from Sunderland in the summer of 2020.
Hugill, who is now on loan at Altrincham in the National League until the end of the season, was chosen from an eight-man shortlist by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel.
Joe Hugill wins PL2 Player of the Month
Joe Hugill of Manchester United Under-21s wins Premier League 2 Player of the Month for January.
Hugill was in excellent form during the month, scoring five goals in only four league games.
The youthful Reds won all four games, defeating Fulham, Liverpool, West Ham, and Blackburn, advancing farther despite many of Mark Dempsey’s men playing years above their age.
Hugill began January by scoring the game-winning goal in our 2-1 away win over Fulham, and he followed that up with a brace against rivals Liverpool eight days later.
He scored two more goals in the youthful Reds’ following game, as United recovered from two goals behind to beat West Ham 3-2.
Hugill beat out Southampton’s Dominic Ballard, Manchester City’s Carlos Borges, Adedire Mebude. Mikki Van Sas, as well as West Ham’s Divin Mubama, to be named Player of the Month for January.
Congratulations, Hugill!
