Jude Bellingham surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Owen in England’s 1-0 victory over Serbia in Euro 2024 on Sunday.
Bellingham entered the tournament after a successful debut season at Real Madrid, where he won La Liga, the Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup.
The 20-year-old was rested for England’s warm-up matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland before being named to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the tournament opener against Serbia.
Bellingham made a crucial contribution in his first outing since the Champions League final, meeting Bukayo Saka’s deflected cross and steering his header beyond Predrag Rajkovic.
The Three Lions eventually saw out the rest of the game, keeping a clean sheet and scoring three points in Group C.
Jude Bellingham beats Ronaldo and Owen’s record
Bellingham not only scored the winning goal, but he also established a record in Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins Arena.
At 20 years and 353 days old, Bellingham became the youngest player to compete in three major international events. He broke the record set by former England forward Owen.
The England player also outperformed Portugal forward Ronaldo, who accomplished the same mark at 23 years and 123 days old.
Bellingham participated in his first three major events at Euro 2020, making three substitutions while England advanced to the final.
The midfielder started all five of England’s 2022 World Cup games before being knocked out in the quarterfinals by France.

After scoring against Iran in the 2022 World Cup, Bellingham’s header against Serbia makes him the only player to score for the Three Lions in both major tournaments while playing club football outside of England.
The Real Madrid player finished fifth in two major titles, behind Bryan Robson, Alan Shearer, Bobby Charlton, and Gary Lineker.
After scoring his first European Championship goal, Bellingham now has four goals in 30 appearances for his country.
Bellingham should have another opportunity to increase his tally on Thursday when England plays Denmark in their second group match.
