Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli has won the Serie A Player of the Month award for March 2023 for the second time in a row.
When Serie A resumes after the international break, the player will receive the award when Napoli hosts AC Milan at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium on April 2.
He defeated Napoli teammate Kim Min-jae, Sassuolo’s Armand Lauriente, Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, and Destiny Udogie (Udinese, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur).
“The series of successes and awards continue for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the first footballer to be awarded best of the month three times in the same season,” Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo said (via the league’s website).
On March 19, the Georgian winger scored one goal and assisted on another against Torino. He had scored against Atalanta eight days before. That mesmerizing goal was named Serie A Goal of the Month.
He also appeared in Napoli’s 1-0 loss to Lazio, where he excelled despite the result.
Since joining the club this summer for around €12 million from FC Dinamo Batumi, Kvaratskhelia has been flawless. In 23 league appearances, he has scored 12 goals and assisted on another ten.
Together with Victor Osimhen, they have propelled the Partenopei to the top of the table. Napoli could win the Scudetto for the first time since 1990.
They will also face Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals. Kvaratskhelia had two goals and four assists during that stretch.
His performances have earned him a new contract as Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis attempts to keep any potential suitors at bay. He’ll sign after the season is over.
Following his outstanding debut season, Napoli will most likely keep him for another season.
However, the club is willing to let go of Osimhen if a buyer can meet his €150 million asking price.
