Messi is becoming increasingly unsure about extending his contract with Paris Saint-Germain beyond this summer.
The Argentine forward’s father, Jorge, met with the Ligue 1 leaders’ management this afternoon. However, nothing has been decided yet.
PSG’s administration had hoped in January that Lionel Messi would join soon. They think it is with his option for a third year in the French capital being renegotiated in the aftermath of the club’s FFP-related problems. However, neither the former Barcelona player nor his squad have accepted the offer.
Jorge Messi met with sports advisor Luis Campos, in a meeting that had been planned for over a month. It is what PSG says is simply an intermediate stage in the negotiations. Another, at a different site, is scheduled to take place in the following days.
Despite a promising start to the discussions, the two parties look to be drifting apart, and Team Messi is considering alternative possibilities. The Argentine is reportedly interested in joining Inter Miami, with his family eager to relocate to Florida. Even though he has publicly praised his teammate, the 35-year-old apparently had reservations about PSG’s plan to center their project around Kylian Mbappé back in the summer. Despite having nothing against Mbappé, Messi feels the club should not be ready to let Neymar go. His future is becoming increasingly doubtful as a result of the team’s poor results and deteriorating dressing room culture.
