Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentine midfielder Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield.
After the two clubs agreed on an £8.2 million fee for Perrone, the 20-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at the Etihad by Manchester City.
After competing in the U-20 South American Championship, the midfielder will join the Premier League champions.
This season, Perrone has made 33 appearances for Argentine club Velez. During those appearances, he has two goals and three assists.
In March, he made his debut for Javier Mascherano’s U-20 national team in a 2-2 draw with the United States.
Perrone was wanted by Premier League clubs Wolves and Newcastle, as well as Portuguese club Benfica, but City came out on top.
The defensive midfielder will have to compete with Rodri and Kalvin Phillips for a spot in Guardiola’s starting lineup.
Following his move to the Etihad, he follows in the footsteps of forward Julian Alvarez, who moved from River Plate in Argentina.
Alvarez has already made an impact at Manchester City, scoring against Chelsea on Sunday, and also helped Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar.
