Napoli will seek £150 million for their top striker Victor Osimhen this summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea interested.
Osimhen is one of Europe’s most sought-after attackers, and his clinical displays have earned him 25 goals for the Naples club, helping them to a 19-point lead at the top of Serie A.
Napoli are bracing for a deluge of offers for the 24-year-old Nigerian at the conclusion of the season, and have prepared for the attention by placing a hefty price tag on him.
The Italian club is under no rush to sell its greatest asset, who is under contract until 2025, with president Aurelio De Laurentiis refusing to meet with any team that offers less than the £150 million asking price.
It looks like Osimhen is showing his interest in joining United, who are seeking for a new striker a priority this summer. But, Napoli’s asking price may put club executives off.
Erik ten Hag is anxious for extra firepower to put his squad within striking distance of Arsenal and Manchester City, the only two teams in the Premier League title chase this season.
United are also keeping tabs in Harry Kane, but they are aware that he may cost them £100 million this summer, with the Tottenham striker’s contract ending in 2024.
Spurs would also reject any attempt by United to pay for Kane in installments in order to avoid selling to a local competitor and persuade him to sign a new contract despite the team’s dismal season.
He would, however, be a cheaper alternative than Osimhen, with United also interested in RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian star has already committed to join Leipzig, but United may yet pull the plug on the agreement.
Napoli demanding huge amount for the Nigerian Striker
Chelsea has also been connected with Osimhen. The Blues have spent £600 million on new players this season under new owner Todd Boehly, but they still lack a dependable striker, with Joao Felix and Kai Havertz unable to produce a consistent supply.
the Blues have picked Osimhen as having “the appropriate profile” for the club, and Boehly is preparing to offer them cash and Christian Pulisic in exchange.
Osimhen announced this month that he will meet with his representatives at the end of the season to determine his future.
‘I don’t know what the future will be. ‘I feel I am on the correct track,’ Osimhen stated.
