Thiago Silva and Chelsea have fully agreed to extend their contract.
Thiago Silva’s current contract with Chelsea is near to expire next summer. But the Brazilian is now nearing an agreement to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge through 2024.
Even as he nears the end of his spectacular career, Thiago Silva has been one of Chelsea’s top players since arriving in London from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.
The Brazilian has already expressed his intention to continue playing into his forties, in the tradition of his iconic former colleague and defender Paolo Maldini.
“I hope I can replicate what Maldini did at Milan and play until he was 40 or 41,” the 38-year-old told Chelsea’s official website.
“That is my immediate plan, and I have prepared for it.
“You must constantly be active and up to date on the latest rehabilitation treatments.
“I do a lot of PT work at home, and I’ve got a healthier diet today than I did before – you need to fuel yourself healthily, not with nasty stuff.”
With Chelsea attempting to rebuild their team with younger players, as seen by their January transfer transaction, retaining Silva for another year would be a wise decision on their side.
Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, who are anticipated to play a significant role in Chelsea’s defense in the upcoming years, will find Silva’s knowledge and ability to lead at the back crucial.
Chelsea is now ninth in the Premier League standings after having a difficult start to the 2022–23 season. They have a difficult road ahead to make the Champions League for the next season.
