Danny Ings of Aston Villa has joined West Ham United in a £15 million deal.
Ings, a 30-year-old striker with three England caps, will join the London Stadium just 18 months after joining Aston Villa from Southampton. He is the Hammers’ second January signing, following the arrival of Brazilian defender Luizao at the start of the window.
“I’m very excited to be joining West Ham United,” Ings, who will wear the No18 shirt, said. “It’s important I settle in as quickly as I can do – and do the important stuff on the pitch for West Ham.
We have some big games ahead of us, and my goal in coming here is to try and score as many goals as I can to help the team achieve some success. Beginning is something I am eager to do.
David Moyes, the manager of the Hammers, expressed his happiness at adding Danny to the team. He is an established goal scorer in the Premier League and will create fierce competition for positions in the attacking third. As we enter a hectic time in our season, we look forward to incorporating him into the team.
The move comes as Michail Antonio, West Ham’s second-leading scorer last season, remains linked with a move. Chelsea is one of the teams that allegedly tried to recruit the Jamaican international.
Ings will cost Villa around £25 million in the summer of 2021. The striker scored seven league goals in his first season at Villa Park and has six this season.
Aston Villa sings Danny Ings
He has nearly 200 Premier League appearances under his belt, having previously played for Burnley, Liverpool, and Southampton. Only golden boot winner Jamie Vardy has scored more Premier League goals than him, with a career-high 22 in the 2019-20 season.
Ings joins a West Ham team that has struggled to score this season after finishing seventh last season. Only Wolves have scored fewer goals than the Hammers, who are just off the bottom of the table on goal difference.
West Ham spent heavily over the summer, including £35 million for Italy international striker Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo. With seven goals in all competitions, the 24-year-old is the Hammers’ top scorer, but only three of those have come in the Premier League.
