Chelsea and Newcastle United are prepared for a summer transfer war for Barcelona winger Raphinha, with the La Liga giants eager to trade the 26-year-old to boost their own budget.

Chelsea and Newcastle are both monitoring the situation at Camp Nou around Raphinha.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently indicated that the club will need to sell certain players during the summer transfer window, which manager Xavi underlined in his pre-match news conference before Barca’s 1-0 triumph against Athletic Club on Sunday.

While Raphinha is a regular starter for Barcelona, the club is likely to sell around €150 million during the summer transfer window in order to meet La Liga’s strict financial fair play rules. Ideally, the club would concentrate on selling players who have less minutes than the Brazilian but command a lower transfer cost than someone of his caliber.

Raphinha is a precious asset that, according to sources, is for sale at the appropriate price. If Barcelona sells the brilliant winger, who cost £55 million, they want to recover their investment and even make a profit.

Raphinha, on the other hand, does not want to leave Barcelona, especially after signing from Leeds United at the start of the season. Chelsea and Arsenal all wanted to sign the Brazilian last summer, but he opted for a dream transfer to Barcelona instead.

Raphinha has played 37 times since arriving at the start of the 2022/23 season, scoring nine times and assisting nine times. With 13 games remaining, Barcelona is nine points ahead of Real Madrid in second place, with the 26-year-old playing a vital part in the team’s progress in the league.

Chelsea are still keeping an eye on the issue, and Newcastle are also keeping an eye on a high-profile possible addition. Champions League ambitions, though, may leave both disappointed, with the former unlikely to finish in the top four, while Newcastle has lately slid out of those positions.
