Thiago Silva is reportedly aiming to leave Chelsea and return to his home Brazil this summer.
Silva has been a key player for Chelsea since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020. The 38-year-old has been a stalwart in center defense and was recently rewarded with a one-year contract extension.
This contract, negotiated prior to Graham Potter’s departure, keeps him with the club until June 2024. However, the upheaval at Stamford Bridge this season appears to have worn Silva down, and he is said to be regretting his choice to commit his future to the club.
Silva is eager to terminate his Chelsea contract at the conclusion of the season in order to return to his childhood club Fluminense. The Rio de Janeiro club is now second in Brazil’s Serie A and has recently signed Real Madrid icon Marcelo.
Silva is close to Marcelo and has been enticed by the left-back to return home and play one more season before retiring. Marcelo isn’t the only one who wants him to return to Fluminense; club president Mario Bittencourt and ex-striker Fred are both on board.

Silva began his career at Fluminense, where he stayed from 2007 to 2009 before moving on to AC Milan and PSG. Last year, the club gifted him with an honorary No3 shirt, which, oddly, remains unassigned at the time.
The experienced center-back has appeared 32 times for Chelsea this season. But has been unable to prevent the club from finishing 11th in the Premier League. He is a loud leader on the field and has not been afraid to criticize the club’s path off the field.
Chelsea have spent £600 million on players since co-owner Todd Boehly joined the club last year, with little success. After Real Madrid eliminated them from the Champions League, Silva let his mind run wild.
“I believe the first step has been taken,” he stated. “It was an incorrect step, but it was taken.” We cannot blame the management if we do not accept responsibility. The club is going through a difficult time, with a lot of indecision.
“We had to increase the size of the changing room because it didn’t fit the size of the squad due to a change in ownership and new players arriving.” A plus note is that there are some fantastic players in the roster, but there will always be guys who are dissatisfied.
“There will always be someone disappointed because not everyone can play.”
It’s difficult for the manager to select 11 players from a roster of 30 or more. Some cannot make the team; we signed eight in January; we must pause and devise a strategy, otherwise we will repeat the same mistakes next season.”
