Bayern Leverkusen to sign Borja Iglesias?

The German Bundesliga leaders are eager to sign him on loan after losing their top scorer, Victor Boniface, to an injury this season.

According to Diario AS, Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has reportedly given Iglesias permission to join the club in January, with the goal of bolstering the team’s attacking options. The Betis striker’s potential transfer is viewed as a solution to the Spanish club’s current problems. According to ABC de Sevilla, the German club is considering a loan deal until the end of the season. However, Betis is requesting a transfer fee of around €10 million.

The 31-year-old Iglesias, with his scoring prowess, could easily fit into Bayer Leverkusen’s lineup as they confidently pursue the Bundesliga title and remain competitive in European competitions. Xabi Alonso believes Iglesias can regain his top form, despite the fact that he has yet to score in the current league after scoring fifteen goals the previous season.

Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini, aware of his team’s goal-scoring struggles, gave Iglesias a 45-minute start against Barcelona, replacing Willian Jose. Despite their belief that Iglesias can repeat his previous performances, Betis are open to his departure. Pellegrini is clear: reinforcements are contingent on departures. Thus, any viable economic offer to assist the club will be welcomed, providing an opportunity to investigate alternative attacking options.

Pellegrini has previously experimented with strikers other than Iglesias, including Ayoze Perez and Assane Diao. Among them, Willian Jose is the most efficient, having scored ten goals in the current season.

As the winter transfer window progresses, the question of whether Borja Iglesias will leave Betis becomes more prominent, with Bayer Leverkusen looking to capitalize on the striker’s potential talents.
