Florian Wirtz has been voted the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season for 2023/24.
After a spectacular season that saw him lead Bayer Leverkusen to their historic first Bundesliga triumph.
Wirtz’s outstanding season earned him three Player of the Month awards (October, December, and February).
He has now been selected the greatest player of the season as a result of your votes in deciding the Team of the Season.
VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy (September and March) and Deniz Undav (November and January) won the monthly award, presented by EA Sports, twice each, while Wirtz’s Werkself teammates Alejandro Grimaldo (April) and Victor Boniface (August), who was also named Rookie of the Season, were voted once each.
And what a season it’s been for Wirtz and Leverkusen as a whole, as they won the Bundesliga for the first time in history and are on track for a treble, with UEFA Europa League and DFB Cup finals to come. The offensive midfielder turned 21 at the beginning of May, but he has been a major player in all key statistics for Xabi Alonso’s undefeated team.

Wirtz has 11 goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga this season, both of which are personal bests. Despite being rested frequently in the latter stages of the season, he has still come off the bench to have an effect, such as scoring his first senior hat-trick as a second-half substitute to secure the title in a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen. “Flo is a good player even at 70 percent,” remarked Alonso, who understands what it takes to be a top performer.
Wirtz has also been denied by the goal frame a league-high five times, but the native of Pulheim, less than 20 kilometers from Leverkusen, leaves his mark in more ways than just completing and assisting. He’s developed into the entire package at the center of the action, capable of dribbling, distributing, covering ground, and possessing a quick turn of speed.
