Robin van Persie, a former Arsenal and Manchester United striker, has been hired head coach of Dutch top flight club Heerenveen.
The Netherlands’ record men’s goalscorer, 40, has signed a two-year contract and will begin his management career in the summer.
Since retiring as a player in 2019, he has worked as an assistant coach at Feyenoord, overseeing the club’s under-18 and under-19 teams.
“I would like to continue my development, and the role of head coach fits perfectly with that goal,” stated Robin van Persie, who was a member of the Premier League-winning United side in 2013.
“Heerenveen is a really beautiful Premier League club with a long history and devoted fans.
“It is a fantastic challenge to contribute to the sporting ambitions and development of the club as head coach.”
Current Heerenveen manager Kees van Wonderen indicated in March that he would leave the position at the end of his contract.
