Oxford v Ipswich prediction

Ipswich make the trip to Oxford on Friday night in strong form, particularly away from home, as they seem to finally have found their groove this season after a slow start to the campaign following their relegation from the Premier League in May.

Kieran McKenna's side started the new season as favourites to win the Championship title this season, but it took until their fifth game to record their first league win of the campaign.

Victory at a top-six Hull side on Tuesday night saw the Tractor Boys climb into the play-off spots for the first time this season though and are currently sat fifth in the league, three points off the automatic promotion places, with a game in hand.

The Suffolk side had gone winless from their first five matches on the road this season but have since won their last three games on their travels, scoring 10 goals in the process.

Oxford, on the other hand, head into Friday night's clash without a win in their last five matches, and fell into the relegation zone in midweek despite snatching a 95th minute equaliser at Carrow Road against Norwich on Tuesday night.

Gary Rowett's side have won only one of their eight home games so far this season, but have lost only one of their last four at the Kassam Stadium, that defeat coming against a Stoke side currently second in the Championship table.

Four of the last six meetings between the two sides have ended in a draw, though Oxford did win the most recent encounter, winning 2-1 when the two sides were back in League One in the 2022-23 season.

Ipswich's strong form, particularly on the road, should result in a fairly comfortably routine victory for the Tractor Boys against an Oxford side without a win in five and down in the bottom three. A 2-0 away win looks likely.
