Aaron Ramsdale 'getting interest' from Serie A Giants

AC Milan are apparently the latest team to express interest in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The goalkeeper will wish to leave the Gunners after losing his starting spot to David Raya early in the year.

Ramsdale was given a new contract until 2026 at the end of the 2022-23 season, during which he kept 14 Premier League clean sheets, trailing only Golden Glove winner David de Gea, as Arsenal finished second in the standings.

The England international began the 2023-24 season in goal, but since Raya replaced him following the September international break, Ramsdale has spent the majority of gameweeks on the Arsenal bench.

As a result, the 25-year-old has made only 10 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side in all competitions this season, his last coming in the Premier League in November during a 1-0 victory over Brentford, when Raya was unable to face his parent club.

Raya’s loan from Brentford is anticipated to be made permanent for roughly £27 million this summer, and Ramsdale is in serious danger of losing out on a spot in England’s Euro 2024 team due to a lack of minutes.

Rumours of a January move to Chelsea or Bayern Munich went nothing because Arsenal refused to sanction winter bids, but Ramsdale will face a difficult decision this summer if he continues to play second fiddle to Raya.

Chelsea appear to have chosen to drop their interest in the 25-year-old, but journalist Ekrem Konur believes Milan might provide Ramsdale with an alternative exit path at the conclusion of the season.

If Mike Maignan, who replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma as their number one in 2021, is unable to be retained, the Rossoneri are expected to consider a move for the England international.

Maignan won the Serie A title in his first season at San Siro, but his contract is only for two more years, and he was subjected to horrible racist comments during a match against Udinese in January.

After dropping their interest in Ramsdale, Chelsea may turn their attention to Maignan as they look for a new number one, and Arsenal will likely consider bids for the former if they can find a successor.

Arsenal’s other goalkeeping alternatives include 21-year-old Karl Hein and 22-year-old Arthur Okonkwo, who is presently on loan at Wrexham.

He has also won one trophy, the 2023 Community Shield.
Ramsdale saved Rodri’s penalty shot in Arsenal’s penalty shootout win over the treble champions.
