Andy Robertson of Liverpool has returned to training and is expected to return to first-team action early in the new year.

Andy Robertson has returned to Liverpool training

The left-back has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain in October.

As a result, he missed the Merseyside derby on his return to club action, as well as 11 more games since, as well as Scotland’s two November internationals, in which they celebrated qualification for next summer’s finals.

Robertson is still out for a few weeks, but the Daily Mail reports that he will return next month.

A return before the end of 2023 was always a possibility, but that means he will miss crucial league games against Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United, as well as their EFL Cup quarter-final against West Ham United.

While he has not yet returned to contact training in order to protect his shoulder, according to the report, Robertson is back on the grass building fitness after a lengthy layoff.

In addition, the Scot is undergoing strength training to get his shoulder back to full strength before putting him in full training and, eventually, the first team.

Andy Robertson | The Undisputed Defender of the Red Army

Robertson is Liverpool’s undisputed number one choice at left-back, having missed only 17 league games in the previous five seasons, mostly due to other injuries.

Since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, the 29-year-old has enjoyed unrivaled success, winning every major award under Jurgen Klopp and racking up an impressive number of assists along the way.

Robertson has 53 Premier League assists and seven in the Champions League while playing alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite side.

Since Robertson’s injury, Kostas Tsimikas has been the man most often tasked with deputizing, with Joe Gomez also appearing on the left side of defense on occasion.

Following their trip to Union SG on Thursday, the two are likely to continue alternating in the side for the next six matches, with Klopp unlikely to make many changes with the Reds already through as group winners in their Europa League section.
