Arne Slot to Liverpool: The Reds have begun negotiations with Feyenoord to hire Arne Slot as their new manager.

According to Sky Sports News, Slot is at the top of Liverpool’s list of potential Jurgen Klopp replacements.

The Feyenoord head coach meets all of their main criteria for the role, and sources in Holland say the process could go swiftly with the 45-year-old eager to join the Liverpool club.

If a contract is reached, compensation is expected to be around £9 million.

Slot, who won the KNVB Cup last weekend and guided Feyenoord to their first trophy in six years last season, appeals to Liverpool because of his aggressive, all-out attitude.

He has schooled his side to be adept at converting defensive actions into shooting opportunities, and they now lead the Eredivisie in tackles won in the opposition’s final third.

Feyenoord has the league’s strongest defensive and second-best offensive metrics.

Slot has demonstrated the ability to improve both individuals and teams despite operating on a smaller budget than his major competitors, and his preference for a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 configuration complements Liverpool’s roster.

Tottenham, Chelsea, and Leeds have all approached Slot in the past. He signed a new deal with Feyenoord last May that will keep him there until 2026, but he has expressed a desire to advance in his career.

Liverpool was considering hiring Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, but sources claim he is no longer in the running.

West Ham have an eye in Amorim, although Julen Lopetegui, the former Wolves, Real Madrid, and Spain manager, and Paulo Fonseca, who is currently in charge of Lille, are considered the top runners.

Arne Slot is expected to take over as Liverpool manager after Klopp’s departure

Slot took over from Dick Advocaat at Feyenoord at the start of the 2021/22 season, after the club finished fifth the previous season. Just two years later, they became Eredivisie champions. He constructed a pressing team that played fierce, attack-minded football while still winning.

Feyenoord is now second to PSV Eindhoven, nine points behind with four games remaining. In Europe, they finished third in their Champions League group before sliding to the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Roma on penalties in February.

Marcel van der Kraan, a Dutch football journalist, told Sky Sports: “He is the leading candidate for Liverpool.” It was just a matter of time before another major English team came knocking at the door. He has not only been a successful manager, but he has also been quite impressive with his attacking, Pep Guardiola-style game.
