According to Sky Sports, the 38-year-old defender will undergo a medical at the Merseyside club today. He will sign a one-year deal with an option to extend for another season.

According to the Daily Mail, Premier League newcomers Luton Town have also signed Young.

Aston Villa was the Englishman’s previous club, which he departed in June. He has formerly played for Inter, Manchester United, and Watford.

Everton are set to make Ashley Young, 38, their first signing of the summer on a one-year deal this week.

The talks are still going on for the transfer. A physical examination for the former Aston Villa and Manchester United utility player is also planned for this week.

Everton arrived in Switzerland on Monday for pre-season training. But defenders, Mason Holgate and Vitaliy Mykolenko are couldn’t attend the training because of injury treatment.

Following his free transfer to the Midlands club in 2021, Aston Villa released the former defender when his contract expired.

He firstly rejected down multiple offers from other Premier League teams before returning to Villa Park. He previously played there between 2007 and 2011.

And it appears he has turned down interest from other Premier League teams, notably Luton Town, who had been in contact with the free agent, and will instead join the Toffees.

Young, who won the Premier League with Manchester United in 2013 and the Serie A with Inter Milan in 2021, adds a wealth of experience to Sean Dyche’s squad.

Everton have escaped relegation for the second season in a row, this time avoiding the drop on the last day of the season, much to the relief of the Goodison faithful.

The club has also lost numerous young talents in recent weeks, including Tom Davies and talented striker Ellis Simms, although they have yet to make any new additions.

Andros Townsend is another player that departed the club when his contract with Everton terminated in June.

The 31-year-old winger is a free agent and is presently training with Burnley. He missed last season due to a knee injury.

It comes as the Blues face financial difficulties as they construct their new stadium on the Liverpool waterfront.

However, Everton may receive a new influx of cash shortly as part of their pending takeover, which might assist enhance Dyche’s recruitment budget this summer.

The Toffees will require defensive reinforcements this season after centre-back Yerry Mina departed the club in June, while right-back Seamus Coleman suffered a season-ending knee injury late in their 2-2 draw with Leicester.
