Chelsea F.C. has entered the race to sign Youssoufa Moukoko, a young Borussia Dortmund and Germany star.

Chelsea F.C. linked with a January move for Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko.

The Blues has entered the race and begun talks with Borussia Dortmund and Germany striker Youssoufa Moukoko’s representatives about a possible move.

The recently turned 18-year-old was a member of Germany’s World Cup-winning squad. He came on for the final few minutes of Japan’s defeat and sat on the bench for the rest of the group games before flying back to Germany.

Moukoko has risen quickly through the Dortmund ranks in recent years. His deal with the Bundesliga club runs out at the end of the season. Foreign clubs, as we know the rules, can contact the player in January to sign a pre-contract agreement for the player to arrive as a free agent in the summer.

Chelsea can do so beginning January 1. They are also considering signing the forward to a five-year contract with a sixth year option. It is quite comparable to the recent six-year contract extensions of Reece James and Armando Broja.

Moukoko was on fire for Dortmund in the first half of the season. In 22 appearances across all competitions, he scored six goals and assisted on six others. He is primarily a center-forward who can also play right wing if necessary.

More to know

The 18-year-old has good pace to make runs in behind the defense, is a good finder of space in the opposition box, and can drop deep to link up play and make space for others in the final third.

In the first transfer window under the new regime, Chelsea did not hesitate to spend money on top young talents. Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, Omari Hutchinson, and others were a coup for them. All of this is part of Todd Boehly’s ‘Vision 2030’ plan, which includes bringing in top young players to improve the youth team and increase competition for a spot in the senior team.

Moukoko now has a wealth of first-team experience. He has the potential to be an excellent addition to our forward line, which has struggled to score this season. He is still young enough to grow here.
