Chelsea have landed the French international on a contract length of seven-and-a-half years

Chelsea Football Club have announced the signing of 21-year-old Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile on a seven-and-a-half-year contract for £35 million.

The Blues have been looking for a left-sided centre-back since the summer, but they were unable to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig for Croatian World Cup star Josko Gvardiol.

Chelsea was said to have reached an agreement to sign Badiashile earlier this week, as well as personal terms for a long-term contract.

Badiashile then arrived in the capital and went through his medical before proceeding with his transfer.

Chelsea Football Club Manager’s Statement

‘I’m very happy to be here at Chelsea,’ the defender told the club’s website. I’m extremely excited to begin playing for this club. I can’t wait to meet the fans and play in the world’s best league.’

‘We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea,’ said Blues owner Todd Boehly.

‘He’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself. And he has a significant amount of experience for his age. We are confident that he will be an important member of our team in the coming years.’

The young defender, who drew interest from West Ham and Sevilla, made his Ligue 1 debut for the Monegasque club in 2018 at the age of 17 and went on to make 20 appearances in his debut season.

Since then, he has made 135 appearances for Monaco and was a member of the team that reached the French Cup final in 2021.

After representing France at every youth level, Badiashile’s domestic performances for Phillipe Clement’s team earned him a call-up to the senior squad earlier this year. As well as he made his debut in a 2-0 Nations League win over Austria in September.

The signing follows the arrival of Ivory Coast international David Datro Fofana from Molde.

A. Santos, Felix, Mudryk, and World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez have all been in the link with moves to Stamford Bridge. They are all in Graham Potter’s targets for the transfer moves.
