Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by 15 runs on Tuesday in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 match at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The last time MS Dhoni’s team reached the championship game was in the 2021 campaign. They got the victory when they triumphed against Kolkata Knight Riders to win their fourth trophy. CSK’s return to the summit clash comes after their second-worst IPL season, finishing ninth out of ten teams in the 2022 edition.

It was the Super Kings’ fourth triumph over Gujarat Titans (GT). The teams met in the IPL 2023 opening in Ahmedabad on March 31, with the home team winning by five wickets.

CSK has won four Indian Premier League (IPL) trophies. They lost three finals to Mumbai Indians (MI) and one to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).

WHY WAS CSK SUSPENDED FOR TWO YEARS?

In July 2015, the RM Lodha Committee sentenced India Cements, the owner of Chennai Super Kings, to two years in prison for their involvement in spot-fixing and betting.

The squad’s two-year suspension left supporters sad that their beloved team would not be fighting for the championship.
