David de Gea set to leave Manchester United

David de Gea is likely to leave Manchester United on a free transfer this summer. His depart may bring an end to his long affiliation with the 20-time English champions.

Since joining the Red Devils in 2011, the 32-year-old has made 545 appearances, including 58 in all competitions this season.

Last season, De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove after preserving 17 clean sheets. However, he received criticism for a number of high-profile mistakes.

At the end of this week, the goalkeeper’s contract at Old Trafford will expire. The Red Devils has not yet made any extension update.

According to a recent story, De Gea had already agreed to a new contract with the Red Devils. But the club ultimately pulled out of an agreement, leading to the current scenario.

According to rumors, Man United offered a less favorable deal than what had been first decided.

The club has the option of extending De Gea’s current contract for another year. However, doing so would retain the Spaniard on his exorbitant £375,000-a-week salary, which is not an option.

Erik ten Hag’s distrust is the primary cause of Man United’s contract change.

According to the article, the team’s current head coach has misgivings about De Gea after some poor performances last season, including major gaffes against Sevilla and West Ham United.

Ilkay Gundogan’s second attempt in the FA Cup final earlier this month finds its way into the bottom corner of the goal, and De Gea received criticism for that goal as well.

The veteran goalkeeper is likely to leave Old Trafford this summer. Given recent developments, reaching an agreement at this stage of the process appears to be challenging.

A number of Saudi Pro competition clubs are thought to be eager to offer De Gea a lucrative contract, which could see him leave European football behind to play in a competition that includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante.

De Gea’s replacement, Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, appears to be on his way to Old Trafford. Onana played under Ten Hag at Ajax previously.

David Raya of Brentford, who will begin preseason training in early July in order to be ready for the 2023–24 season, may also be of interest to Man United.
