Despite arriving from Ajax with a strong reputation, Van de Beek has failed to make an impact at Old Trafford.

Only 62 appearances in all competitions have been made, with the Netherlands international contributing two goals and two assists.

Van de Beek has only played 323 minutes of game time since the start of the 2022-23 season, when Erik ten Hag took over, despite suffering a serious knee injury at the turn of last year.

Van de Beek was able to return at the end of September, but he hasn’t played a single minute since two substitute appearances at that time.

With United needing to improve their FFP position, it has been speculated for some time that the 26-year-old will be allowed to leave the Theatre Of Dreams in due course.

Furthermore, Ten Hag has admitted that his Dutch colleague is likely to seek a new challenge elsewhere after being denied more opportunities in the senior ranks.

Donny van de Beek to join Eintracht Frankfurt on winter transfer

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Van de Beek’s position in the pecking order allows him to complete a transfer to Frankfurt this week.

As he first revealed last week, Romano claims that the two clubs have formally agreed on the terms of a loan switch in which Frankfurt will have the option to buy Van de Beek.

If they choose to activate that clause, Frankfurt will allegedly pay €11m (£9.47m), with a further €4m (£3.44m) contributed later in add-ons.

Van de Beek is scheduled to have a medical examination with the Bundesliga team in the coming day or two. if the deal closes, he is not expected to return to United.

United still has Premier League games against West Ham United, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest before the January transfer window opens.

However, Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay, Kobbie Mainoo, and Hannibal are all ahead of Van de Beek at the moment, with Casemiro and Mason Mount set to return from injury in the coming weeks.
