Emiliano Martinez says that he will attempt to persuade Lionel Messi to join Aston Villa, even if it means lowering his wage.
Emiliano Martinez jokes that he will try to lure Messi to Aston Villa by promising him companionship and roast dinners.
During a recent tongue-in-cheek interview, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez stated that the club will do “everything possible” to attract Lionel Messi to Villa Park.
Messi is due to depart PSG at the conclusion of the season, and given his age and wage demands, there is minimal prospect of him transferring to the Premier League, but Martinez thinks he would try anything to do so.
The duo were key players of Argentina’s World Cup-winning side in Qatar last winter, and Martinez has made a lighthearted attempt to change Messi’s mind.
‘I’d bring him to Aston Villa,’ Martinez said, smiling. ‘I’d lure him with mate (a South American drink), have barbecues for him every weekend, have people manufacture tiny flags for him, and he’d have a fantastic time.
‘If necessary, I will cut my income for Messi.’

Messi has received a substantial offer to transfer to Saudi Arabia. But Barcelona may potentially seek to re-sign him after losing him to PSG two years ago.
Despite his tremendous personal productivity, Messi has yet to bring the Champions League championship that PSG’s Qatari owners want.
Villa are not there yet, but if they win Brighton on Sunday, they will be in Europe next season.
Martinez told ESPN Argentina that he is still struggling to accept loss. ‘It has happened to me to lose a game, come home, and not talk to anyone,’ he continued. ‘It’s difficult to strike that balance,’ Martnez added.
‘Fortunately, I have my wife and children to assist me calm down in those times of distress.
‘I’ve sobbed after losing a game and laughed too hard after winning a game. It’s not in my DNA to accept defeat.’
