Nantes fans were injured after violent clashes with Ajaccio supporters on Saturday night. Les Canaris faced AC Ajaccio in Ligue 1 gameweek 22 on Sunday afternoon at Stade René-Coty. The visitors won thanks to two second-half goals from Evann Guessand and Ludovic Blas in what was a fairly dull match – but the situation in Corsica had reached a boiling point the night before.
In downtown Ajaccio, violent clashes erupted between the two groups of supporters. To disperse the fans, police intervened and used tear gas canisters. According to Corse-Matin, several Les Canaris fans suffered minor injuries. The Canaries lamented in a statement released on Saturday that no Corsican transport company had agreed to drive their supporters to the stadium, despite the Corsican authorities issuing a decree prohibiting their arrival other than in a convoy. On Sunday, proceedings for “group violence” were initiated. Ajaccio dropped to eighth place, while Nantes gained breathing room and now leads the four-team relegation zone by seven points.
