Fermin Lopez to sign new contract with Barcelona until 2028

Only yesterday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Barcelona had begun contract negotiations with midfield prodigy Fermin Lopez.

Adding to that, Gerard Romero’s Jijantes FC has announced that the 20-year-old La Masia ace will sign a new long-term contract with the Blaugrana tomorrow.

Lopez’s current contract with Barcelona expires in 2024, and the club intends to extend it for another four years, committing him to the club until 2028.

Lopez, a product of the club’s youth program, has steadily risen through the ranks. The youthful offensive midfielder spent the previous season on loan at Linares and had a productive period, prompting Xavi to draft him into the first-team dynamics.

Lopez took part in the US pre-season tour, where he impressed everyone with some outstanding displays, including a goal against Real Madrid.

Following a pre-season tour with the first squad, the Spanish offensive midfielder made his senior debut for the club in La Liga against Villarreal this past Sunday.

Fermin Lopez is preparing for his breakthrough

According to Catalan media, Barcelona is likely to sign another promising kid to a long-term contract.

After a strong start to the season, Barcelona announced on Monday that it will begin contract negotiations with 20-year-old midfielder Fermin Lopez. Lopez scored 16 goals from midfield while on loan at Logrones previous season, earning him a spot on the club’s preseason tour to the United States.

During preseason, he impressed everyone by scoring and assisting against Real Madrid in El Clasico. Despite stiff opposition, Lopez earned his senior debut for Barcelona against Villarreal on Sunday, playing the final 10 minutes.

Lopez will sign a new contract with Barcelona as soon as Tuesday, according to Gerard Romero of Jijantes (via MD). He will have a €400 million release clause and will sign a five-year contract.

Lopez’s arrival this season might be a huge help to Xavi Hernandez. Xavi has expressed a desire to sign another creative midfielder before the end of the transfer window, but if that player does not arrive, Lopez will be able to provide goals from the center of the field. Similarly, all five midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order are set to play a lot of minutes, and Lopez might be valuable in rotating them out.
