Fiorentina advances to the UEFA Conference League final with a draw against Club Brugge.

Fiorentina, which lost to West Ham United in the Conference League final last season, will meet the winner of the second semifinal match between Olympiakos and Aston Villa in Athens on Thursday.

Lucas Beltran converted a late penalty as Fiorentina drew 1-1 in the second leg at Club Brugge on Wednesday to win the semifinals 4-3 on aggregate and advance to the Europa Conference League final for the second time.

The Italians lead 3-2 after the first leg in Florence, but Belgian team Brugge’s Hans Vanaken equalized with an early goal.

Fiorentina, on the other hand, appeared to be the more likely to score, and after Christian Kouame twice hit the goal frame, a penalty was granted after Brandon Mechele’s high boot caught the face of M’Bala Nzola, and Beltran tied the game with five minutes remaining.

Fiorentina will meet the winner of the second semifinal match between Olympiakos and Aston Villa in Athens on Thursday. The Greek team leads 4-2 after the first leg.

Brugge had hoped to reach their first European final in 46 years. However, they finished second in both legs against more attacking opponents.

They leveled the tie on aggregate when Vanaken’s vicious in-swinging cross from the left beat everyone, including teammate Maxim De Cuyper and Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano.

Kouame’s tremendous effort from the edge of the box hit the underside of the crossbar and stayed out by an inch before the unlucky Ivorian hit the frame of the goal again, this time with his header.

Fiorentina was given the opportunity to score the goal it earned as a result of Mechele’s error, and Beltran dealt the hosts a crushing defeat.
