Jamie Vardy will play in the Premier League next season after agreeing to a new one-year contract.

Jamie Vardy set to renew one-year contract at Leicester City

The 37-year-old out-of-contract striker is being rewarded for helping the Foxes win the Championship with two goals in Monday’s 3-0 win at Preston.

Vardy had been projected for a career finale in Saudi Arabia or America.

But Foxes manager Enzo Maresca has received his wish to keep the ex-England player.

Jamie Vardy will be back in Premier League

Vardy will now have another Premier League party and the opportunity to add to his 136 top-flight goals.

And the extension will take him into his twelfth season with the club, past his 38th birthday.

Vardy’s Deepdale double brought his season tally to 20 goals, his greatest return in four years, as fans chanted for him to stay for “ten more years”.

His last Premier League experience ended in relegation 12 months ago, but his 24 goals helped Leicester win the crown against all odds eight years ago.

Vardy also won the FA Cup in 2021 and is just 10 goals away from 200 in a Foxes shirt, putting him third on the club’s all-time list.

Maresca has previously praised the forward, claiming he can score goals long into his thirties.

He stated, “Jamie Vardy is Leicester.” Jamie Vardy has always scored goals, and he will continue to do so even at the age of 40 or 45.

“Goalscoring is in his blood. We are extremely fortunate that he is our player.

“Now we complete the season; we have a game on Saturday, and then we sit.

“But my feeling is that he’s going to stay this is my feeling, if I can decide.”

The Foxes clinched promotion when Leeds lost at QPR on Friday and can reach 100 points with a win over Blackburn this Saturday.

Maresca continued: “It’s a terrific sensation. We’ve mentioned it several times: it’s been a difficult and hard season.

“The Championship is a lengthy season with many games, but we completed it and are really satisfied.”

“The performances were there and I think we completely deserved this target.”
