Jurrien Timber spotted in Arsenal training

Jurrien Timber | Injury Update from Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

The Netherlands international full-back was signed from Ajax for £34 million ($42 million) during the summer transfer window. He suffered an untimely injury while making his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend.

Jurrien Timber experienced anterior cruciate ligament injury, necessitating surgery. He is expected to remain out for several months, with Arsenal planning to ease him back into their plans when the time comes, yet he was photographed at the Gunners’ official team photo shoot with a smile and no noticeable knee difficulties.

Arsenal was sad to lose Timber so early in the 2023-24 season, but Arteta feels a large-money transaction will provide long-term value. “We are all human beings, and you know that one plus one does not always equal two,” added the Spanish coach. In the end, it’s only a wager. When you buy a player, you’re making a wager, and that bet can go wrong… because it’s a person. You must bring them from various countries, cultures, and playing styles. They must then exist and adapt inside a new system and habitat. It can take some time. It may work on occasion but not usually.

I feel tremendously responsible, especially since we’re requesting large sums to purchase players. You must ensure that we have completed the necessary steps. However, this is not always the case. Take a look at Jurrien. We’re overjoyed, but for a different reason, he’s not on the field. We paid a lot of money for him, and he’ll be a key player for us. But it’s not working right now since he can’t do his job. That is sometimes the case. But they don’t always fit in because they’re not playing well enough – and the coach makes so many mistakes that he doesn’t always get the best out of a player.”

Arsenal have gained 13 points from five Premier League matches this season, placing them fourth in the rankings, and are preparing for a long-awaited return to Champions League contention when they host Dutch heavyweights PSV on Wednesday.
