Kai Havertz close to joining Arsenal from Chelsea

June 21, 2023

Kai Havertz is on the verge of joining Arsenal from Chelsea for a fee of €75 million plus bonuses.

According to sources, Arsenal are close to finalizing a £65 million deal for Chelsea player Kai Havertz.

The Gunners have been interested in signing the German international this summer and, according to Mail Sport, tabled a £60 million proposal for Havertz earlier this week.

According to the Athletic, the two London teams have agreed on a fee somewhat more than their previous offer to sign the 24-year-old.

According to the publication, personal details have already been agreed upon with the forward ahead of his transfer to north London.

According to the Mail Sport, Havertz has been given a long-term contract at Arsenal for at least £210,000 per week.

Following the rejection of their initial £50 million bid last week, Arsenal has maintained negotiations with Chelsea to settle on a cost for the Germany international.

Meanwhile, the Blues are eager to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations and have been attempting to sell a number of their first-team players this summer.

N’Golo Kante completed a move to Al-Ittihad on Wednesday, while Eduoard Mendy, Mateo Kovacic, and Romelu Lukaku have all been linked with moves elsewhere.

According to rumors, Arsenal believes Havertz’s flexibility on the field makes him a must-win target for the club.

The 23-year-old has taken over as the Gunners’ prime target from Declan Rice, yet Arsenal are optimistic that both of their top targets will make the transfer.

Their interest in Rice coincides with the likely departure of midfielder Thomas Partey, who Arteta has judged surplus to needs.

Arsenal may explore letting players depart as Arteta looks to rebuild his team ahead of their return to the Champions League.

Lavia of Southampton is another prospective center-field alternative, although Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are all interested in the Belgian.

Meanwhile, Arsenal has been advised that its £30 million opening bid for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber must be increased.

The 22-year-old Holland international is worth roughly £50 million but wants to join Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is looking for a flexible defender who can play right back and then slot in in midfield, much as Oleksandr Zinchenko does on the opposite wing.

There is optimism that a Timber agreement can be made between the two teams.
