Kolkata Knight Riders Name Johnson Charles As Replacement For Litton Das For Remaining IPL 2023 Season.
Kolkata Knight Riders are the two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions. They named West Indies batter Johnson Charles as a replacement for Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das. KKR are keeping Johnson for the remainder of the IPL 2023 season. Litton Das had to return to Bangladesh due to a family emergency last week.
The “Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday named Johnson Charles as a replacement for Litton Das for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023,” according to an IPL statement.
Charles, like Litton Das, is a wicketkeeper-batter who has represented the West Indies in 41 T20Is, scoring 971 runs and being a member of the West Indies’ 2012 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20-winning squads. He has also played 224 T20s and has over 5600 runs to his name. “He joins KKR for Rs 50 lakh,” according to the statement.
Charles hit the fastest T20I century by a West Indian batter this year, off 39 balls against South Africa in Centurion. On Thursday, KKR will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023 match 47 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Litton Das appeared in just one IPL 2023 match, scoring four runs before returning home to Bangladesh. Charles broke Chris Gayle’s record with a 39-ball century earlier this season. Charles now holds the West Indian record for the fastest T20I hundred.
Gayle had previously scored a century off 47 balls against England in Mumbai in 2016. Charles also has the joint second-fastest T20I century, with Sivakumar Periyalwar of Romania (against Turkey in 2019) and Zeeshan Kukikhel of Hungary (against Austria in 2022).
