Kyle Walker is poised to sign a new contract with Manchester City, effectively ending Bayern Munich’s aspirations of signing the England star.

Kyle Walker agrees to STAY at Manchester City

Walker was a priority signing for Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel.

However, the German club’s prospects of signing Walker are swiftly dwindling, with reports stating that the defender is close to negotiating a 12-month contract extension at the Etihad Stadium.

The news will be welcomed by City manager Pep Guardiola, who has been desperate to keep Walker at the club.

Guardiola’s all-conquering team features Walker as one of City’s major leaders. Walker’s athleticism and defensive output, despite his age, remain important components in Guardiola’s setup.

Walker’s new contract has not yet been finalized, but he is most likely to remain with the Treble holders.

Guardiola recently pleaded with Walker to stay at the club, emphasizing the importance of the right back in his squad.

‘What can I say about Kyle [Walker] and Bernardo [Silva]?’ Guardiola stated to reporters. ‘They are extremely important to us. We want them and will go to any length to get them.

‘We want him to stay because he wants to stay,’ says the manager. Any effort will be made. It would be quite tough to replace these two.’

Guardiola has seen key members of his squad leave this summer, primarily due to the pull of Saudi Arabia, as Riyad Mahrez moved to the riches on offer in the Middle East, and Bernardo Silva is also considering a move. Ilkay Gundogan joined Barcelona on a free transfer as well.

Kyle Walker ready to sign NEW Contract with Manchester City

Walker has been an integral part of City’s recent success, which has seen the team win three straight Premier League crowns and eventually end their wait for a Champions League triumph.

Since joining the club for £54 million from Tottenham, he has made 255 appearances in all competitions. He established himself as one of the top full-backs in the world.

However, the veteran player was unhappy about being benched for City’s Champions League final match against Inter Milan, sparking rumors that he would be transferred.

Walker captained City in Sunday’s Community Shield match against Arsenal, raising the possibility of him staying at the club longer.

The Gunners won the preseason championship at Wembley on penalties, preventing him from guiding Guardiola’s team to triumph.
