Real Madrid is ‘advancing with confidence’ in a deal to recruit Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Mbappe’s contract expires at the end of the season, and his future has dominated headlines since last summer, when the Frenchman notified PSG that he did not intend to sign a new contract with the club.
The 25-year-old attacker has long piqued Real Madrid’s interest. However, the team is beginning to feel more confident now that a lot of sources indicate Mbappe has decided to travel to Spain at the end of the current campaign.
According to Fabrizio Romano, despite the lack of formal communication between Mbappe’s team and PSG, the Spanish side is convinced that a deal will be reached.
Mbappe is understood to have agreed with PSG to keep them updated on his decision, with an announcement expected soon.
Mbappe’s likely move to Madrid follows a lengthy pursuit by Los Blancos, who felt an agreement had been reached to sign the France captain in 2022, only for Mbappe to sign a contract extension with Paris. A year ago, the Spaniards failed with a €200 million (£171 million) proposal.
Mbappe has a record-breaking 241 goals in 288 games for PSG, and he has been the top scorer in Ligue 1 for five consecutive seasons. He has won the division’s Player of the Year title in four of the last five seasons, but he is considering leaving as he pursues elusive Champions League victory.
