Leeds United manager Sam Allardyce has left the club by mutual agreement after Premier League relation.
With only four games remaining in the 2022–23 season, Allardyce ran into Elland Road to replace Javi Gracia in an effort to avoid the Premier League.
He began his Leeds career with a 2-1 defeat away at eventual winners City before drawing 2-2 with top-four Newcastle.
Leeds blew a 3-1 lead against West Ham United on the penultimate weekend of the season. They headed into the last day of the season having to beat Tottenham Hotspur to have any hope of survival. Spurs thrashed them 4-1.
Leeds United departs with Allardyce
And Leeds have now confirmed that Allardyce will not return to the club for the 2023/24 season.
“Leeds United and Sam Allardyce can confirm that both parties have mutually agreed for Sam’s spell at the club to end following the completion of the 2022/23 season,” the club said in a statement.
“Despite spirited performances against Manchester City and Newcastle United, Sam joined the Whites for the final four games of the season, and the goal of remaining in the Premier League was not achieved.”
“It has been an honor to manage Leeds United, a great club with an incredible fan base who deserve to be in the Premier League,” Allardyce said on the club’s official website.
“I’ve had a great time working with the club’s staff and players.”
“I’d want to thank Angus Kinnear for the chance. I’d also want to recognize Karl Robinson and Robbie Keane, who have worked relentlessly over the last two weeks.”
“At this point in my career, I’m not sure to commit to taking on this challenge.”
“This challenge could be a long-term project.”
“But I wish the club every success in the future.”
“I hope the club returns to the Premier League, where they belong.”
In the upcoming weeks, there will be announcement for Allardyce’s replacement. according to Leeds.
