‘Luis Enrique’ steps aside as Spain head coach after World Cup exit

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced that Luis Enrique will step down as manager of the Spanish national team with immediate effect.

According to a statement issued by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the RFEF sports leadership has prepared a report for President Luis Rubiales recommending that the national team embark on a new project to continue the growth that began under ‘Lucho‘.

Rubiales and RFEF sports director José Francisco Molina notified Enrique of their resignation in this regard.

The Spanish national team eliminated in the first round of the 2022 World Cup after losing a penalty shootout to Morocco (0:0, 0:3 on pen.).

Enrique took over as manager of the Spanish national team for the second time in 2019. The team reached the Euro 2020 semi-finals under his leadership.
