Man United preparing third bid for Mason Mount

Manchester United are contemplating a third proposal for Mason Mount, hoping to persuade Chelsea to sell the midfielder. Chelsea had been demanding £70 million, but United are convinced that a deal can be struck for a player with one year left on his contract.

United’s most recent bid was £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons, and they want Mount resolved as quickly as possible so that they can move on to other targets, namely Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo. Chelsea is also interested in Caicedo.

Manchester City has offered Chelsea £25 million plus £5 million in add-ons for Mateo Kovacic, who has a year left on his contract. Kovacic is five years older than Mount, but United think the trade shows that £70 million is an unreasonable asking price for England’s midfielder. On Friday, Kovacic will have a physical with City.

Mount has been linked to moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, but United remains his most likely destination. Personal terms will not be a problem with United.

Chelsea are nearing an agreement with Villarreal to acquire striker Nicolas Jackson. They are said to be paying somewhat more than the £30 million release price for the 22-year-old, who has accepted personal terms, in order to stave off interest from Aston Villa, Everton, and Bournemouth.
