Man Utd re-claims Champions League qualification

Man Utd moved up to third position and sealed their spot in the Champions League for next season with a 4-1 victory over Chelsea, while Erik ten Hag encouraged the club to bring in “better players” to assist make a title challenge next season.

Early in the game, Casemiro headed in Christian Eriksen’s free kick, and Anthony Martial added a second from close range in first-half stoppage time. In the meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s team squandered a number of wonderful chances, and their squandering proved costly.

Bruno Fernandes won and converted a penalty before Wesley Fofana, who had conceded the penalty, gave the ball to the Portugal midfielder for the fourth goal, allowing him to set up replacement Marcus Rashford. Chelsea’s performance was dreadful.

Early on, Mykhailo Mudryk spurned the first opening of the game, gauging his shot way wide of the far post after excellent play by Lewis Hall. Chelsea paid the price for their frivolity as Casemiro beat Fofana to the ball at the other end.

Antony’s injury, sustained as a result of a ferocious charge from Trevor Chalobah, may rule him out of the FA Cup final. But it only resulted in the introduction of Rashford – and the stoppage time from which United made it two.

They have one win in their last 13 games, with 10 of them coming under Lampard. The Blues’ starting lineup was the youngest in Premier League history. Neither it nor Joao Felix’s late goal are really heartening. Casemiro and the rest were decisive where they lacked confidence.

Casemiro is crucial in that move. Havertz and Gallagher both had excellent chances. But Martial couldn’t miss when put up by Sancho.

Chelsea kept pushing in the second half, but it was all too loose, leaving them susceptible. Fernandes struck the crossbar before winning a penalty after being tripped by Fofana. He converted it himself, and once the pressure was removed, it was party time at Old Trafford.

Their collaborator was the helpless Fofana. Rashford even skipped past him again before beating Kepa on the second try, thanks to his weak pass. The crossbar prevented fellow replacement Garnacho a sixth goal. It was a bloodbath.
