Marcos Alonso set to leave FC Barcelona as a Free Agent

Ex-Chelsea player Marcos Alonso’s Barcelona career is finished after less than two years with the Spanish giants.

The former Chelsea star joined the Catalan giants less than two years ago.

But transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the 33-year-old will leave as a free agent at the end of the season.

He stated, “I understand Marcos Alonso will leave Barcelona as a free agent at the end of the current season.”

“There is a great deal of respect between the organization and the player, but he will be going in June.

“Sergi Roberto could also leave for free but the final decision will also depend on Xavi’s future.”

Alonso joined the La Liga giants on September 2 and made his competitive debut eight days later, in a 4-0 win against Cadiz.

And in his first season, he won the league title under manager Xavi.

During his 18-month stay at Barcelona, the former Bolton Wanderers player made 44 appearances and scored three goals.

However, the defender has struggled this season, missing many games owing to a back issue.

His time at Barcelona has come to an end, and he will be a free agent after that.

Prior to his move to Barcelona, the Spain international signed for Chelsea in 2016 for £24 million from Fiorentina.

He won every trophy a Premier League team could, including the league title in his debut season, the FA Cup, the Champions League, the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA team World Cup while at Chelsea.

During his six years at the club, Alonso appeared in 212 games and scored 29 goals.

Alonso, who began his career at Real Madrid, also spent three seasons at Bolton and half a season on loan at Sunderland.
