The Norwegian international joined Arsenal permanently from Real Madrid in August 2021 following an initial loan; Mikel Arteta appointed Odegaard as captain, and he has made 112 appearances.

Martin Odegaard has agreed to a new five-year contract with Arsenal that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.

The 24-year-old Norwegian midfielder joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021 before signing a permanent four-year agreement in August, with a club option to extend his stay for another year.

Odegaard has appeared in 112 games for Arsenal in all competitions, scoring 27 goals and assisting on 15 others.

“Signing a new contract was a really easy decision for me for a variety of reasons,” Odegaard explained. What we are doing as a club right now is unique, and I want to be a part of it.

“I’m genuinely looking forward to what’s to come here. I’ve found a location where I can feel at ease and call it home.

“Perhaps my story is a little different because I’ve been in different clubs since I was 16.” I’ve felt at ease at Arsenal since the first day, and this is unquestionably my new home.

“I just want to thank everyone who works at the club and, of course, our incredible fans.” I will continue to offer my all to help this club succeed in the next years.”

Martin Odegaard is staying at Arsenal for FIVE-MORE-YEARS

Mikel Arteta said, “Martin signing a new long-term contract is such excellent news for everyone corresponding with Arsenal.

He is our captain and a highly regarded member of our team, a terrific role model and professional who brings quality and maturity to all he does.

“Martin, as everyone has seen, is a young player of exceptional quality who consistently contributes at such a high level.”

“Working with Martin the person and the player is an absolute joy for me as a manager.”
“It’s fantastic that he is now settled and truly feels at home at Arsenal after having played for a number of clubs already in his career.”

“We are all looking forward to continuing our journey with Martin in the years to come.”

“To agree and complete a new contract with Martin is such great news for us all,” said Edu, Arsenal’s sporting director. He is our captain, an experienced international, and a player who brings so much quality and joy to our team every time he plays.

“Martin is still only 24 years old, so there’s a lot more to come from him, and we’re excited to be working together in the coming years.”

“Our goal is to keep our best players, and with Martin now on board, we’re pleased to have recently completed new long-term contracts with a number of our most important young players.”
