S.S.C. Napoli destroyed the German side.

S.S.C. Napoli advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The hosts had a strong start against the Serie A champions-elect, with Mario Gotze finding pockets of space and hooking up nicely with the likes of Jesper Lindstrom and Randal Kolo Muani. They couldn’t capitalize on their quick start, and despite Kevin Trapp saving a penalty from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli led at halftime due to Osimhen.

Their difficulties made even worse after the break. The hotshot attacker Kolo Muani sent just before the hour for a challenge on Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Anguissa started the move that resulted in a stunning team goal, floating the ball into Kvaratskhelia’s foot, whose exquisite backheel put the ball on a plate for captain Di Lorenzo to score and end the match.

Napoli’s incredible season continues, and unless they suffer a setback at home, they’ll be eager to impress in the competition’s final eight.

There is just no stopping Osimhen right now, as Frankfurt discovered after only 40 minutes, with the all-action forward breaking the deadlock on the big stage. We may see another goal from Osimhen after that 40 mins first goal. But as a result, the goal is now not countable after getting being offside.

Although one of Europe’s most in-form and prolific attackers this season continued to excel, the other – Kolo Muani – had a night to forget. Whatever chance Frankfurt had of winning the competition rested on the Frenchman performing admirably. He didn’t. Kolo Muani hardly had a chance to put Alex Meret to the test before getting sent off in potentially hazardous circumstances for a follow-through that, while dangerous, was likely unavoidable. He will now miss the second leg in Naples, leaving Frankfurt with an uphill battle.

Frankfurt now have three weeks to shake off the setback and return to winning ways in the Bundesliga before traveling to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where Napoli have yet to lose in Serie A this season.
