N’Golo Kante is allegedly close to signing a new deal with Chelsea, with the midfielder on the verge of returning to first-team play after a long-term injury.

Kante’s current contract with the club ends at the end of the season, and the two sides have been in talks about his future at Stamford Bridge for months.

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are optimistic that an agreement is now near, with Kante allegedly established in London.

Although suffering from ailments over the previous 18 months, Kante’s popularity has remained strong.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are already in link with a move for Kante if he decides not to renew his contract with Chelsea.

The duration of a possible extension was viewed as the most important topic in discussions, with Chelsea claiming to be proposing a two-year agreement with the possibility of a third.

The midfielder is now looking for a lengthier deal.

Kante had played in Chelsea’s season opener against Everton before suffering a hamstring injury the following week in the club’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Due to the severity of the injury, the French international left out of Didier Deschamps’ squad that reached the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.

Since joining Chelsea in 2016, Kante has made 185 Premier League appearances.

The midfielder was a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s 2021 Champions League-winning squad.

During his tenure at Chelsea, Kante won the Premier League, the Europa League, and the FA Cup.

N’Golo Kante wants to sign new contract with the Blues

The French international is now warming up with Chelsea’s first squad ahead of their encounter against Tottenham on Sunday.

Chelsea will begin the game 11 points behind their opponents, who presently hold the fourth and final Champions League spot in the Premier League.

The pressure has increased on Potter, who has overseen only two wins in their past 14 games.

The Blues are tenth in the Premier League and trail Borussia Dortmund 1-0 after the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter.
